Maia Ramarosandratana is the founder and executive director of Projet Jeune Leader (PJL), a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization that works to ensure that every adolescent in Madagascar has essential knowledge, skills, and support through comprehensive sexuality education. Maia founded the organization in 2013; since then, the organization has grown exponentially to bring comprehensive sexuality education to tens of thousands of young adolescents in rural communities across Madagascar. Maia grew up in Madagascar from age 6 to 17, and speaks English, French, and Malagasy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College and a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her efforts to transform sexuality education in Madagascar have been recognized; she was a Gratitude Network Fellow (2020), Sommer Scholar (2018), 120 under 40: The New Generation of Family Planning Leader (2017) and Laureate Global Fellow of Youth Action Net (International Youth Foundation) (2016).
